Can you please brief us on your professional career in the medical tourism field?
Hamdan Almurshidi, the visionary President of Almurshidi Medical Tourism, has significantly advanced the company since its inception in 2015. Initially starting with one hospital, Almurshidi Medical Tourism now represents over 400 hospitals, clinics, and medical centers across 16 countries, offering top-tier services. Hamdan’s results-driven and globally minded approach has led the company to achieve new heights in the healthcare sector both in the UAE and internationally.
Under his exceptional leadership, Almurshidi Medical Tourism has garnered numerous accolades, including the “Medical Tourism Company of the Year 2023.” His dedication to quality services and meticulous oversight has established the company as a global leader. As an expert in health tourism, how do you evaluate the health tourism industry today?
As an expert in health tourism, I observe that the industry today is experiencing significant growth and transformation. The demand for medical treatments abroad continues to rise due to factors such as the high cost of healthcare in developed countries, long waiting times for certain procedures, and the availability of advanced medical technologies and skilled professionals in other regions at more affordable prices.
The industry is increasingly characterized by the globalization of healthcare services, with countries like India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Turkey emerging as key destinations due to their world-class healthcare facilities and competitive pricing. Additionally, there is a growing emphasis on holistic care, combining medical treatments with wellness and recuperation packages, which appeal to health tourists seeking comprehensive care experiences.
Digital advancements and telemedicine have also played a crucial role in shaping the industry, providing patients with easier access to information, consultations, and follow-up care. Furthermore, accreditation and certification by international healthcare organizations have improved the quality and safety standards, boosting patient confidence in seeking treatments abroad.
However, challenges remain, such as regulatory differences, language barriers, and the need for robust post-treatment care coordination.

C. Geographical Advantage: Situated at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, the UAE is easily accessible from major global hubs. This geographical advantage makes it convenient for patients seeking treatment from various parts of the world.
D. Government Support and Investment: The UAE government has actively supported the development of health tourism through policies that facilitate medical visas, infrastructure development grants, and incentives for healthcare providers.

According to you, which 5 destinations can be considered as references in health tourism now?
A. Thailand: Known for its medical expertise in cosmetic surgery, dental care, and wellness retreats. Bangkok and Phuket are popular hubs for medical tourists seeking affordable yet high-quality treatments.
B. Germany: Considered by many as the ‘Hospital of Europe’, it boasts high-quality treatment that is usually made available much earlier than in other countries. It is home to many leading medical implants and pharmaceutical companies, facilitating access to the newest equipment and expertise, which means that its physicians are much more experienced and knowledgeable about recent treatments being developed.
C. India: Offers a wide range of medical treatments at competitive prices, including cardiac surgery, orthopedics, and Ayurveda. Cities like Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai are major hubs for medical tourism.
D. Turkey: Emerging as a leader in health tourism, especially i
n hair transplantation, cosmetic surgery, and thermal spas. Istanbul and Antalya are key destinations for medical travelers.
